They say love don’t cost a thing, but a new survey has revealed that, in fact, an average date night in Canada clocks in at $115, with those in Hamilton paying the most of all ($125). Yet, compared with the global average, a date night in Canada is cheaper than the same date in many other major cities.

The cost of a date night in Canada
A new analysis from premium dating site EliteSingles has delved into the cost of love, revealing that a typical date night in Canada (consisting of a mid-range dinner for two, a shared bottle of wine, two cinema tickets, and an 8km taxi ride home) will set you back an average of $115.1
However, some big cities are pricier than others: the aforementioned date costs an average of $125 in Hamilton, $123 in Toronto, $122 in Edmonton, and $120 in Calgary.
If you’d like to save a few loonies, then Quebec City might become your dating destination of choice: an average date night in the ville is only $103. Other wallet-friendly Canadian cities include Halifax, where a date night will cost $107, Ottawa ($108), and Winnipeg ($109).

The cost of a date night around the world
As well as looking at the cost of love in Canada, the premium online dating company examined the average cost of a date night in 25 cities around the world.
Using the same criteria for a ‘typical’ date night, and converting local currencies into CAD, the analysis revealed that the average global cost of a date is $114.
On a global scale, Canadian wallets are getting off relatively lightly: at $123, an average date in a big city like Toronto is cheaper than the same date in many other major global cities, including Sydney, Paris, Auckland, Hong Kong, London, Stockholm, Amsterdam, New York, Tokyo, and Oslo.
Oslo is the world’s most expensive place to have a romantic date night, with a typical evening setting you back an eye-watering $179. At the other end of the scale is Bogotá, where the same date adds up to a mere $58.
