In honour of World Beard Day this Saturday (2nd September), EliteSingles surveyed 2,000 singles about all things facial hair. The study revealed some surprising results – like the fact that more than two-thirds of bearded men would shave for love.
- 68% of bearded men would shave off their facial hair for love
- 47% of clean-shaven men would grow a beard to please their partner
- 40% of singles would ask a partner to shave; 18% would ask them to grow a beard
- 37% men, 27% of women think that men are more attractive with beards
With World Beard Day right around the corner, premium dating site EliteSingles surveyed 2,000 singles about beards, attraction, and dating, and found some surprising results.
68% of bearded men would shave off their facial hair for love
One of the biggest reveals from the survey was that over two-thirds of bearded men (68%) would ditch their whiskers if a partner asked. This includes 44% who would wait until the relationship was serious and 24% who would shave for a partner right away, even if the relationship was brand new.
47% of clean-shaven men would grow a beard to please a partner
Comparatively fewer men would grow a beard for love. Just 47% of clean-shaven men would start growing a beard if their partner asked. Much like with shaving, the more serious the relationship, the more likely a man is to change his facial hair situation: 33% would wait for a serious relationship before growing a beard, while just 14% would grow one for someone they’re newly dating.
40% of singles would ask a partner to shave; 18% would ask them to grow a beard
Yet, most men don’t have worry about changing their look. Less than half of singles would actually want to have a say in a potential partner’s facial hair style. Just 40% of singles say that they would ask a partner to shave it all off, and only 18% would ask their partner to grow out a beard.
37% of men, 27% of women think that men are more attractive with beards
That said, nearly a third of singles (30%) think men are more attractive with beards. Men are more likely to champion facial hair: 37% of men and 27% of women think beards make you more beautiful.
So what’s the most attractive beard of all? For 40% of beard-loving singles, the most swoon-worthy is the classic, full beard: one that includes a moustache, but is still neat. Second place goes to a highly-styled goatee, which got 25% of the vote, while five o’clock shadow crept into third with 19%.
Of course, while these three beards may be the reigning champions, it’s important to remember that all types of facial grooming situations were deemed attractive by survey users. So, whether you prefer a smooth jaw line, a classic beard, or even a rugged wildling waterfall, this World Beard Day remember to grow your own way – now that’s attractive!
